Born and raised in Tokyo Japan, Akino's early years were enriched with an artistic atmosphere by a family of architects, artists and classical musicians. Akino couldn't help becoming a designer. Rather than playing with doll houses, Akino built her own doll "amusement park" with cardboard and string for her stuffed animals.
While attending college, a chance art class focused her artistic background and led her to attend Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.
After graduating with an Industrial Design Degree, Akino joined Chrysler
as a member of their advanced design team.
Among the concept cars she designed during her 12 years at Chrysler was the Chrysler AKINO concept which was presented at 2005 Tokyo Motor Show. In 2006 Akino was named as one of the top "100 World Recognized Japanese Women" by Newsweek Japan.
Simplicity is a key to Akino's design philosophy. Combining her Japanese heritage and architectural influence, Akino has developed a unique recognizable style which express an artful simplicity. (P.G)
